Overview The Sixty-sixth World Health Assembly, including Ministers of Health of 194 Member States, embraced the WHO’s Comprehensive Mental Health Action Strategy 2013-2020 in May 2013. In 2019, the action strategy was extended until 2030 by the Seventy-second World Health Assembly. Then in 2021, the Seventy-fourth World Health Assembly backed updates to the action strategy, including updates to the plan’s choices for implementation and indicators.
This updated Comprehensive Mental Health Action Plan 2013-2030 builds upon its predecessor and sets out clear actions for Member States, the WHO Secretariat and international, regional and national partners to promote mental health and wellness for all, to avoid mental health conditions for those at-risk and to accomplish universal coverage for mental health services. While the upgraded action strategy consists of brand-new and upgraded indicators and execution choices, the initial four major objectives stay the same: more effective management and governance for psychological health; the provision of comprehensive, integrated mental health and social care services in community-based settings; implementation of strategies for promo and avoidance; and reinforced information systems, evidence and research.
