No health without mental health

Psychological health is a lot more than the lack of illness: it is an intrinsic part of our private and collective health and wellness. As this “World Mental Health Report” reveals, to attain the international objectives set out in the WHO “Comprehensive psychological health action plan 2013– 2030” and the Sustainable Development Goals, we need to transform our attitudes, actions and techniques to promote and protect psychological health, and to provide and take care of those in requirement. We can and should do this by changing the environments that affect our psychological health and by establishing community-based mental health services efficient in achieving universal health protection for psychological health. As part of these efforts, we must heighten our collaborative action to integrate psychological health into primary health care. In so doing, we will minimize suffering, maintain people’s self-respect and advance the advancement of our communities and societies. Our vision is a world where psychological health is valued, promoted and protected; where psychological health conditions are avoided; where anybody can exercise their human rights and gain access to inexpensive, quality psychological health care; and where everybody can get involved totally in society free from preconception and discrimination.
