Joseph Sirven, M.D., Teacher of Neurology, Mayo Center: Mayo’s mission has to do with the client. The patient comes first. So the objective and research study here is to advance how we can best assist the client, how to make sure the patient comes first in care. So in lots of ways, it’s a cycle. It can start with as basic as an idea worked on in a lab, brought to the client bedside, and if whatever goes right– and let’s say it’s valuable or beneficial– then induced as a standard technique. And I think that is among the distinct qualities of Mayo’s approach to research study– that patient-centeredness– that actually helps to put it in its own spotlight.
