Nutrition: The years of action

The work program of the Decade will be a global program but with action at the nation level.

Setting out the work programme of the Years will be an inclusive, constant, and collective procedure, building upon and connecting the independent efforts of federal governments and their lots of partners.Advocating for commitments by all stakeholders to execute particular interventions, policies, programs and investments for action on nutrition in all relevant sectors will be vital in order to bring about a real and significant system change to end all kinds of malnutrition. The Decade will supply a standardized global framework for making, reporting and keeping track of development and for tracking results.All stakeholders are invited to send inputs to the work program of the

Decade, taking as recommendation the 6 pillars recognized in the ICN2 Structure for Action. These 6 pillars are: sustainable food systems for healthy diet plans; lined up health systems offering universal protection of important

  • nutrition actions; social protection and nutrition education; trade and investment for enhanced nutrition; enabling food and breastfeeding environments; and
  • evaluation, enhance and promote nutrition governance and accountability.Stakeholders are encouraged to set, track and accomplish
  • specific, quantifiable, attainable, pertinent and
  • time-bound(SMART)dedications. This will help all stakeholders understand what action

    is intended and improve tracking.Three groups of catalytic systems will support the development on nutrition dedications throughout the Years: proof notified advocacy, assembling platforms and responsibility mechanisms. Proclaiming the years 2016 to 2025 as the United

    Nations(UN)Decade of Action on Nutrition, the UN General Assembly in April 2016 committed Member States to 10 years of sustained and meaningful nutrition action. The primary goal of the Decade is

    to increase nutrition investments and carry out policies and programs to enhance food security and nutrition within the framework agreed at the Second International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2)held in November 2014. While announcing the Years, the General Assembly endorsed the two result files of the ICN2: the Rome Declaration on Nutrition and its Structure for Action. These documents provide the core elements and the guidance from which national policies and programmes can be made up. The UN General Assembly also reaffirmed its dedication under the 2030 Program for Sustainable Advancement to “end malnutrition in all its forms”. The Years is an unprecedented opportunity for attaining nutrition impact at scale, with a cumulative vision of a much healthier and more sustainable future.
